Panic & Swoon General Store is a lifestyle/gift store that has something for everyone. The shop is the creation and dream of Adrienne Spring Beatty, a dream of hers that had been around since teenager-hood, and more seriously brewing since 2010 when she took a small business class at El Dorado Center and wrote her first business plan. Adrienne, a Placerville native, is a graphic designer and musician with a passion for the old fashion, especially early Americana art, design, and history. She loves all things Old West, ragtime, 1910s, made carefully and sturdy, built like they used to be.

Panic & Swoon General Store echoes those themes with a strong sense of “what’s old is new again” within her store walls. You will find utilitarian goods made of metal, wood, glass, and ceramic, the way they would have been made 100 years ago. The words “Spirit of Americana”, which you can find on their store sign, capture a central part of her store’s ambiance. Panic & Swoon offers goods like: mason jar fermenting kits, cocktail accessories, wall/bedroom neon lights, kitchen accents, camping accessories, old style men’s grooming goods, rare incenses and smudges, tarot cards,  small batch artisan candles and toiletries, handcrafted and handmade vegan makeup, artisan jewelry, hand thrown pottery, bottled botanical sodas and kombucha, and lapel pins, patches, and temporary tattoos. We also have awesome clothes and curiosities for kids and babies, as well as a “kid play area” so that parents can shop happily! We also try to sell as many locally crafted goods as possible, including handcrafted jewelry and locally roasted coffees. We hope to have local honey and jams soon as well.

Panic and Swoon General Store is run by both Adrienne and her husband Art, with their 4 year old, Utah, often “helping” or upstairs in his special kid zone. Because all three of them are night owls, the shop keeps later hours than most. We open around 12:30 most days and close much later than most of the other stores. On Fridays and Saturdays you can find us open until 9pm or later . Panic & Swoon also sells vintage goods online, but in the shop we sell only modern/new goods that invoke the spirit of the last 150 years. We use antiques for the flair and the décor! Come on in and check it out.

The name Panic & Swoon was concocted from a love of old west speak and the haunted history of this awesome gold country. Adrienne came up with it in 2015 after an old west shootout/reenactment on Main Street in Placerville. She took a photo of some of the costumed old west men in their fringes and long coats with a horse in the alley by the parking garage and posted it to Instagram with the caption “If men still dressed like this, I’d be in a constant state of panic and swoon”. She realized that the term had a ring to it that actually sounded like old west slang, and, being a graphic communication student, she promptly went home and bought the website “panicandswoon.co”.

We are thrilled to be located on historic Main Street, and when people ask our address, we are filled with pride to say so!
